Writing Palate & Palette for nearly two years has been a trip—a trip to the places where people make great food and art. My purpose has been to talk to people about their lives and special creations, and then share it with you.
I’ve been to the quaint town of Cambridge, NY, visited a revitalized Beacon, NY, crisscrossed all over Cape Ann—from Bearskin Neck to Rocky Neck to Rogers St.—ferried to Monhegan Island in calm waters, and learned about the life of a cook for a historic schooner, all with the staff photographer capturing the images you see. I’ve enjoyed apples and peaches at a most pastoral apple orchard in Groton, MA. I’ve milled around in the crowd of artists participating in the Cape Ann Plein Air quick draw. Sampling great blueberry muffins, scones, Palestinian pastries, insanely artful pies, hand pies, outrageous chocolate chip cookies, mussels, and habit-forming kombucha was a convenient necessity before writing about them. Research is one of my favorite things to do.
Several artists featured in Palate & Palette have been gracious to share images of their latest work. Don’t hesitate to connect with the artists if you are interested in their work and can envision it in your home. :-) Click on their name to see the full interview.
And to clarify, Palate & Palette has been and remains a noneconomic venture. However, it has really paid off for me in terms of making new friends and seeing great art. And, since many of you asked: Yes, I have served many of my proposed menus to the interviewees.
