It's been a fulfilling first year for Palate & Palette, thanks to all the artists featured here, my staff photographer, and all of you readers who have cheered me on and shared your stories about your connections to the people or food I’ve written about. I am grateful to each person who collaborated with me on a story.

I’m particularly grateful to my first interviewees, Dale Ratcliff and Stapleton Kearns. I approached them for an interview the third day their gallery was open—paintings were stacked on the floor, a sign was yet to be hung, and we sat on folding chairs. It would turn out to be the first piece for this site. They didn’t know me, I didn’t have a website, and yet they spent nearly two hours thoughtfully answering my questions, sharing stories, and showing me how much fun I could have doing this passion project of mine.
