That's a good story! I don't think I have ever had the canned stuff, but I'm on your side! My mom always cooked them with plenty of sugar. I make a relish from Joy of Cooking, but I cut the sugar in half. You put raw cranberries, a whole orange (minus the membrane) and sugar in the food processor and then let it marinate in the fridge for a couple of days. It's delicious. Enjoy the holiday!
What a great and perfectly timed article. I grew up with the jelly sauce right out of the can. As I got older, I began to prefer the the actual cranberry sauce but still from the can.
Sigh. The things marriage will convince you, not you, personally, but perhaps "one," to do. I favor homemade cranberry sauce, not too sweet, with orange zest. If I had to replace it with something pre-made, I'd choose jarred lingonberries. I've also made a relish of cranberries and sweet apples chopped finely with just a hint of sugar and orange zest. I'm never quite sure what to do with that one--a little too fresh and raw for my concept of Thanksgiving.

This one made me laugh out loud!
